Carne Beach return via Porloe and Veryan (8 miles, 4 hours)
So today was the penultimate get together of the Himalayan posse. Only 5 of us turned up - Hugh and his 'screen wife', Jeanette, Rachel, a 'new' addition in the form of 'Geordie' David, and trek organiser Amy and her side-kick Rose. Do the other 5 exist? The day wasn't without incident. It started with my meeting a freelance journalist, Adam, to get down on tape a bit of my story and meet the others. He wants to put out an interview on Cornwall Hospital Radio and then write an article for the Christmas womens' magazine market about our last Christmas. Lovely guy but ran out of time and the recorder ran out of batteries...and I couldn't even remember when Lisa and I got married :-(. Amy and Rachel brought their dogs and that definitely livened things up! We set off from Carne Beach towards Portloe and hadn't gone half a mile before Jeanette bit the dust, felled by Amy's arthritic dog. After a tense few minutes Jeanette got up and dusted herself off - shaken and stirred. Dog duly went on lead and we resumed. It was nice to share hopes and fears (Keane reference anyone?) and we made good progress to Portloe, avoiding the Ship Inn (see previous blog). En-route we bumped into some more ladies doing the Cornwall coast path in chunks for Macmillan cancer and Cornwall Hospice Care- go girls!! Mapless Amy gamely led us up into a field, not helped by me who had walked that way previously (different walk). We retraced our steps once we realised the farm was in the wrong place and then Hugh got his map out and basically mapped our way back to the cars via Veryan!! Can't wait for the real thing. Probably end up up Snowdon?
Thought for the day
Which Base camp will we end up in?
