Ann Hawkey and daughter, Bec - event organisers
The young lady on the left had the misfortune to deliver my Indian Head Massage!
One of my more popular events and I had very little to do with organising other than corralling some willing victims. The college supplied the staff and materials for free. Their 3rd year beauty students were excellent. They offered mini-manicures and pedicures, Indian Head Massages and mini-facials for the amazing price of £5 per treatment, all proceeds to Cornwall Hospice Care via my Everest trek fund. Ann and Bec sold a shed load of cup cakes and raffle tickets, making an amazing total of £820. Ann used to work for Barclays Bank and they've very kindly offered to price match up to £750, making a total of £1570 for the night and taking my total to over £11,000 with 7 weeks to go. Yippee!! Thank you so much Ann & Bec xx

Carne Beach return via Porloe and Veryan (8 miles, 4 hours)
So today was the penultimate get together of the Himalayan posse. Only 5 of us turned up - Hugh and his 'screen wife', Jeanette, Rachel, a 'new' addition in the form of 'Geordie' David, and trek organiser Amy and her side-kick Rose. Do the other 5 exist? The day wasn't without incident. It started with my meeting a freelance journalist, Adam, to get down on tape a bit of my story and meet the others. He wants to put out an interview on Cornwall Hospital Radio and then write an article for the Christmas womens' magazine market about our last Christmas. Lovely guy but ran out of time and the recorder ran out of batteries...and I couldn't even remember when Lisa and I got married :-(. Amy and Rachel brought their dogs and that definitely livened things up! We set off from Carne Beach towards Portloe and hadn't gone half a mile before Jeanette bit the dust, felled by Amy's arthritic dog. After a tense few minutes Jeanette got up and dusted herself off - shaken and stirred. Dog duly went on lead and we resumed. It was nice to share hopes and fears (Keane reference anyone?) and we made good progress to Portloe, avoiding the Ship Inn (see previous blog). En-route we bumped into some more ladies doing the Cornwall coast path in chunks for Macmillan cancer and Cornwall Hospice Care- go girls!! Mapless Amy gamely led us up into a field, not helped by me who had walked that way previously (different walk). We retraced our steps once we realised the farm was in the wrong place and then Hugh got his map out and basically mapped our way back to the cars via Veryan!! Can't wait for the real thing. Probably end up up Snowdon?

Last Street Tin collection!!

Lemon Quay, Truro 15 Sept 2012 l-r David, Shaun, Sue and Mandy
No training walk today as helping out with the last of 6 street tin collections. This was in Truro and the sun shone but, most importantly for our balloons, the wind did not blow! Nice to go out on a high with our best collection total of £195, giving us a grand total, incl. our Asda Bodmin collection, of £1076.86 - not to be sniffed at. Thank you so much to all my helpers over the months that gave up their Saturdays to stand in all weathers in Truro and St Austell It was hard work but also a rewarding experience as the public have been so generous in these cash-strapped times. Now for the Pamper Event on 25 September.....

Vault beach - don't you wish you were on it?
Me at Dodman Point
Training day 27 - Gorran Haven - Lambsowden Cove - 6.5 miles -ages
Another glorious day and ideal walking conditions - sunny with a cool breeze. I had a new toy to play with today having heard some scare stories about cameras freezing I splashed out on an all weather Olympus toughie and was getting to grips with it, so went even slower than normal (not used that excuse before!). As it does video as well I videod the nutters paragliding or whatever it is called over my head at Vault Beach nr Gorran Haven -see below. I strolled on to Lambsowden Cove for a spot of lunch passing the campers on Hemmick Beach and the yacht anchored off-shore...sigh. As I neared the end of my return leg I got chatting to a lovely chap called Peter, a local, who's wife also ended up in Mt Edgcumbe - small world. Towing a collie, aged 10. He's just off to Namibia, or was it Uganda ?, on an annual project to help the locals with agricultural developments, which he sort of fell into by accident and has found most rewarding. All the kiddies treat him as some sort of white 'God' which he finds embarassing, yet endearing! He also cycled to Nepal in his youth - imagine that!! Lovely chap
Anyway - only 9 weeks to go now.....
I made it on to Lambsowden for lunch...

Missy and Alan Jones - The Sea Horse Club, Pentewan Sands Holiday Park
Firstly I need to thank Thom Richardson, my son Oscar's childminder for organising this event from start to finish and raising a whopping £840!! This man camped out for 2 nights at the venue and sold tickets to the campers as well as spending loads of his own time putting up posters all over town - a man on a mission, ably assisted by Missy (pictured above). She pretty much single-handedly sold an amazing £280 worth of raffle tickets. Aged 10 I'm sure we're going to hear a lot more about this special lady. I've absoloutely no idea how Alan performed his tricks but thank you to him as well for accepting a reduced fee and the Sea Horse Club for letting us use the venue for nothing. Now just shy of £9000 for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Port Quin to Polzeath return (above) 18/8/12 - 10 miles
A really nice stretch of coastline, teeming with tourists as you approach Polzeath, but visually stunning - well worth a visit.
Pendower - Portloe return (above) 25/8/12 - 9 miles
The clouds give you a clue as to the weather today - did we have a summer btw?! As I neared Portloe, the heavens opened and I ducked into the Ship Inn for a coffee to warm up and dry off. Unfortunately the welcome from the staff was less than friendly and I got accused of eating my sandwiches (it was a scotch egg actually) but I would avoid this place if you're looking for a warm welcome.
Portholland - Nare Head via Portloe return (above) 28/8/12 - 7 miles
The weather for my return a few days later was much more pleasant and I also chanced across a lovely couple from Esher called Sally and Anthony, staying in Portloe (hope it wasn't the Ship Inn!). I told them my story and wandered back. A couple of days later they donated £50 - yes £50 to my trek fund. Can you believe the generosity of total strangers. Thank you both - amazing!
Pentewan - Porthpean return (above) 1/9/12 - 7 miles
This really is a stretching piece of the coastal path so to all the 'North Coast' snobs I say try this one! The weather was gorgeous and I found time to swim out to my yacht anchored off the bay (see above) before returning to Pentewan (above), site of my Alan Jones event at the Seahorse Club on Friday 7th September - tickets available from all good venues - sorry! Anyway if you haven't heard about it yet, here are the details !
