Charlestown - Pentewan

Gold medal winner Fran Taylor!!

Charlestown - Pentewan return - 9 miles -  4 hours

I turned out today at short notice once I heard Lisa's good friend Fran was doing a triathlon to raise money for my trek in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care in memory of Lisa (and her Grandad).  She kept it a secret which was even nicer and competed feeling poorly.  A word also for her husband Simon who kept her company round the gruelling circuit.  My god that looked hard and she has raised £300 - fantastic.  Spurred on afterwards I traipsed to Pentewan and back and am slightly ashamed to say I found it hard going!  A nice light-hearted moment at the end saw Simon and friends kick-ass on the raft race - truly British.  A lovely day out and a nice reminder for me what nice friends Lisa had and how much esteem they held her in. x

Caerhays - Portloe

What can I say about this stretch of coast other than it is awesome.  The son shone and I began to realise how unfit I am.  Especially when I was sat on a chair overlooking Portlooe feeling pooped and chatted to a passing vagabond who had set off from MEVAGISSEY! and was going to stroll on for a while yet and get a bus back if he could find a cashpoint.  Way to go as they say.  Spotted a beach for the kids the following day...Portholland  - lovely.

Chapel Porth - St Agnes  (return)- quite a way!!

Off the back of a collection I did in Truro (on my own in the morning, then Bec and Liz Beard in the afternoon - thank you - sorry lost the photos!).  We raised more than £130 which I was happy with - even the weather was nice for a change).  Some very generous donations of £5 or more and I met another of the Doctors that treated Lisa - she had her children with her and recalled discussing Oscar with Lisa - very touching).  Two collections to go, on 11 August and 15 September in Truro if anyone wants to help....?

We raised £687 from the scone stall alone - still waiting for the It's A Knockout sponsorship money to come in...Roddas donated the cream, Asda a bit of jam, though I had to buy the scones - we shifted over 170 of the bleeders!  Thanks to Viv, Ann, Bec, Gary, Linzi, Mandy and an unknown CHC volunteer that turned up for grafting hard all day - well worth it.  The Its a Knockout teams were awesome so thanks to Heidi, Holly, Steve, Paul, Kerry, Rich, Shaun, Michelle, Gemma, Bex, James, Susan, Sarah, Jo and Jason for their efforts -ps loved the tattoos.  A great day all round.  Thank you to everyone involved including Amy and Rose for organising it all.

Training Day 17 - Carlyon Bay - Polkerris Beach Return (8 miles - 3 hours)

Slotted this one in before pitching up at St Austell 'town centre' to help out with our latest tin collection - incidentally we raised £63 which wasn't bad under the circumstances - those being the weather.  I think we're cursed for every Saturday to be blowy and rainy.  Thanks to Claire Netherton, Sue Tucker, Heather Davison, Di Hart and Becs (oh yes, Tracey Goss for sliding out for a bit after her overtime stint!).

The walk itself reminded me what a mess Cornwall can make of planning permission.  How that Carlyon Bay debacle is still rumbling on beats me and then walking on towards Par Beach you're forced to detour round the monstrosity that is Par docks and through a caravan site before rejoining the path towards Polkerris beach and the 300 year old, former Coastguard station, now the Rashleigh Inn.  Muddy, windy, flat but beautiful stretch of coast path.

Thought for the day:

Stay out of your comfort zone, take at least one small risk, and do at least one thing that nobody says thank you for.

Tracey (don't take my photo) Goss

On another dull day we made £300, which was ace.  Thanks to Sue Stockman, Marie Kendall, Di Hart, Rebecca Williams, Tracey Goss and me! An amusing spell whereby the girls were mistaken for Asda employees (green t-shirts), some peope thought I was collecting for another trekkie (sorry Katrina), 2 young girls tried to make off with all my balloons,  and someone thought I was raffling an Asda BBQ.  The best bit was when I explained to someone that had donated about Lisa and she got a bit tearful...how nice. The public are wonderful if you give them a chance.... :-)

Training Day 16 - Polruan - Polperro 7 miles - 3 hours

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Rachel Fisher, one of my fellow trekkies, and two doggies for this walk (her own dog decided to roll in a cow pat and trot along in front of me - which was nice).  The day started off showery -unusual for Cornwall - but then the sun broke through and we had a lovely time.  Quite a strenuous stroll and muddy in places but arriving in Polperro (and their festival) we'd had a good time and the best part was Rachel's dad turned up to give us a lift back to Polruan.  Now if only he'd pop out to Everest with us...?

Thought for the day:  Happiness comes from having good health, not desiring anything more, and being thankful for it.

Training Day 15 - Chapel Porth - Portreath return - 10 miles - 4 hrs

Well had endured a few hours on Lemon Quay earlier collecting with my lovely ladies including Tracey from National Autistic Society, Bec, Marie Kendall and her mother, Jackie Godwin and her man, Becs, Di and Tracy Goss.  The squalls came in and lifted our balloons and table away but the highlight has to be Marie's dispute with the Big Issue seller outside M&S  - classic!  Still made £172 despite weather :-)

Then I thought I'd squeeze in a stroll on the north coast....well the weather got worst and didn't see anyone but got a good walk in.  Bleak but awesome coastline.  Quatermass anyone?

Thought for the day: Make each day count by forgetting the past and not expecting the future.
