Day 1 training - Boscastle-Tintagel

 Boscastle
 Rocky Valley
Tintagel - squint hard to see the Castle!

Day 1 Training - Boscastle to Tintagel - 5 miles (13380 steps)

'The walking is not too strenuous' said the book.  Nice little opener for someone in my state of fitness.  Didn't reckon without the new boots however....2 to 2hrs 30 mins.  Hmmm. 2hrs 45 mins later I summonsed up my last bit of energy and ran (yes ran) after the Western Greyhound bus disappearing around the corner back towards Boscastle.  Luckily it stopped and 7 minutes (!!) later I was back at the car realising the fundraising wasn't the hardest part of this trip - it will be the walking....

Interesting fact

The visible horizon is a different distance away for everyone according to your age, health etc.  For me it was 28 miles on this walk as I could see Lundy Island (admittedly from the top of a cliff).
The approximate distance to the horizon from an observer close to the Earth's surface is given by[5]
d \approx 3.570\sqrt{h} \,,
where d is in kilometres and h is height above sea level in metres. So all you clever clogs.  Work out how high I was to see Lundy so clearly!

Thought for the day:

We experience suffering to understand and realise our true strength.  Pain leads us to improve our quality of life and open to love.
